IRD may use this guide as a starting point when assessing an individual debtor’s non-discretionary household expenditure during debt collection. It can also be used to compare spending with similar households in the same region.
What the guide covers
The guide groups expenditure by region and household composition. The March 2026 version is based on Household Economic Survey 2023 data adjusted for inflation.
